Mr. John Austin "J.O." Carey, 78, of 2148 Old Hwy 29, Hartwell, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston.

Born on May 29, 1932 in Royston GA, he was the son of the late Joe Worley Carey and Rilla Carroll Carey.He was owner-operator of Carey Plumbing and Electric and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Venice Stovall Carey; a son, Mike Carey and his wife Allisa of Dewy Rose; a daughter, Kim Robertson and her husband David of Bowersville; one brother, James Carey of Hartwell; one sister, Jean Morrison of Royston; four grandchildren, Alex Robertson, Brittany Robertson, Josh Carey, and Michaela Carey; and one great grandchild, Brooklyn Kate Vassar.Mr. Carey is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Alexis Briana Robertson and several Brothers and Sisters.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Hartwell Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home.Mr. Fred Greenway and Rev. Johnny Stowe will officiate.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.Special memorials may be made out to the Hart Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 1062, Hartwell, GA 30643, or to the charity of one's choice.
