Mr. James Randolph Daniel, 97, of Opal St, Hartwell, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Rainey Hospice House, Anderson SC.
Born on January 27, 1913 in Watkinsville GA, he was the son of the late Watson Daniell and Hassie Weir Daniell.He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, and retired from the Hart Co. ASCS office after 40 years of service.He was a past-president and member of the Hartwell Kiwanis Club for over 50 years; he was a past-president of the Hart Co. Friends of the Library, served on the Hart Co. Board of the American Red Cross, former chairman of the fundraising committee for the American Cancer Society, former board member of the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts, led the effort to have road signs put on the county roads in Hart County, former board member of the Hart County Little League and former member and past president of the Hart County Band Boosters.Mr. Daniel was a member of the Cokesbury United Methodist Church, served in various church positions, former member and chairman of the administrative board and a lay speaker.He was a WW II US Army Air Corp veteran, serving in the CBI Theater.
Survivors include two sons, Carter Daniel & his wife Susie of Cornelia and Randy Daniel & his wife Ruth of Hartwell; a brother, Gunter Daniell of Watkinsville; four grandchildren; two step-sons, Dick Schultz of Albuquerque NM and Rob Schultz of Liberty SC; two step-daughters, Paula Pannell of Mexico and Kathy Schultz of Atlanta GA; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a special friend, Mary Whiten of Royston also survive.Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his first wife, Berta Gaines Daniel; second wife, Dorothy Core Schultz Daniel; sister, Martha Sue Turnville and two brothers, Y.H. Daniell and Reese Daniell.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cokesbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Dean Kring officiating. Burial will be in the Cokesbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.The family is at the home of Randy & Ruth Daniel, 204 Ridgewood Lane, Hartwell. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd, Anderson SC 29621.
