Mr. Joseph Russell Peacock, 83 of 2375 Light wood Rd, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at his home.
Russell was born on April 11, 1927 in Pavo, GA. and was the son of the late John Wesley and Mary Call Peacock. He graduated first in his class from Blackshear, GA High School and after a semester of engineering at Georgia Tech, worked 37 years for Sun Oil Company in Jacksonville, Fl and Philadelphia, PA, retiring as a Pricing Manager in 1987.Honorably discharged in 1948, he was a former Staff Sergeant in the National Guard. Russell was an active leader in Boy Scout Troop 170 and was the proud father and grandfather of four Eagle Scouts. After his family, Russell loved his faithful Labrador, Mocha and being out on Jacksonville Beach and Lake Hartwell.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eugenia B. Peacock; two sons; Wayne Peacock and his wife Virginia of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; Keith Peacock and his wife Christine of Hainesport, NJ; two sisters, Elisa Jones of Arcadia, FL and Lenora Jean Duggar of Schertz, TX. Six grandchildren, Wesley, Nicholas, Elyse, Erin, Kelly, and Caitlin Peacock also survive. Mr. Peacock was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services for Mr. Peacock will be Friday, December 17, 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night.The family is at the home.The family requests that memorials be made in memory of J.
