Mr. Jack Grant, 98, of Elberton GA, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Born on December 18, 1919 in Milan GA, he was the son of the late Rev. O.A. Grant and Annie Forrest Hardy Grant.Mr. Grant met his wife of 65 years, Mary Jo Hill in Pensacola FL, where they were married.Jack, a Pearl Harbor survivor, served in the U.S. Navy for twenty years before moving to Elbert County GA with his wife.He operated a farm in the Rock Branch Community until his retirement.He was a member of the Rock Branch Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife: Mary Jo Grant; four children: Sheila Grant Glover (Lamont) of Roswell GA, J. Bruce Grant of Toccoa GA, Helen L. Grant of Washington DC and Harry R. Grant (Genean) of Cedar Hill TX; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother: John C. Grant (Thelma) of Loganville GA; a sister: Keturah Grant Kelly of Chauncey GA; a sister-in-law: Wilene J. Grant of Elberton GA and a host of other relatives and friends.Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Vaughn officiating.Burial will be in the Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International, Hart County Camp, PO Box 59, Hartwell GA 30643 or to the Rock Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2150 Coldwater Road, Elberton GA 30635.
