Mr. James Wilson Bowen, 94 of 3104 Hwy 172 E. Bowman, died Saturday, October 26 at Spring Valley Nursing Home, Elberton.

Born on November 30, 1918 in Greenwood SC, he was the son of the late Furman Bowen and Ruth Acker Bowen.He was owner/operator of Bowen Construction Company.Mr. Bowen was a charter member of the Unity Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, SS teacher and Training Union Superintendent.He was a WW II US Navy veteran, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan B. Mauldin of Bowman; four sons, Jimmy Bowen and Andy Bowen both of Bowman, Roger Bowen of Royston and Mark Bowen of Milledgeville GA; three sisters: Mary Ann McCall, Sara Jo Campbell and Areila Seymour; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren also survive.Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Ayers Bowen and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Elrod and Rev. Mark Bowen officiating.Burial will be in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family is at their respective homes. Flowers optional, special memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church, 3936 Hwy 17 S., Royston GA 30662
