Born June 9, 1955, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Robert and Nina Parten Brooks. He graduated from Franklin County High School with the Class of 1973. James formerly owned and operated Tri-County Electric and Dixieland Sounds-Radio Shack in Royston and traveled the world in his career as an electrical engineer and later retired from Residue Recycling, where he managed plants in Pendleton and Piedmont, SC. He loved tending to his garden and was a talented woodcraftsman, specializing in bowls, maps of Lake Hartwell, furniture, and any kind of keepsake that would create a special memory for someone. He owned Bowls by Brooks and Dam Good Carving Company. He loved the lake life, especially the time spent with family and friends boating and playing in the water. James will be remembered for his sense of humor and the jokes, both well timed and not, that brought so much joy and laughter to those around. He was of the Christian faith.
