Mr. James W. Carey, 85, of Bannister Drive, Hartwell, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Brown Health & Rehab in Royston.

Born on August 21, 1934 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Joe Worley Carey and Rilla Carroll Carey.Mr. Carey was a furniture salesman for Weatherly Furniture & Pitts Furniture, and he was a member of Flat Shoals Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister: Jean Morrison (Bobby) of Royston; and several nieces & nephews. Mr. Carey is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Helen Dockery Carey; two brothers: J.O. Carey and Thomas Carey; and sisters: Tommie Jo Atkinson and Willie Mae Blankenship.

Because of the current conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be having a formal visitation.They ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks.

James will lie in state at the Strickland Funeral of Hartwell from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday for anyone to come by and pay their respects. The family will be at their respective homes.

Cryptside services for Mr. James Carey will be held Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Rev. Cory Pulliam officiating.Everyone will be asked to practice Social Distancing and may want to bring a lawn chair.

Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the Flat Shoals Baptist Church, 2999 Bowersville Hwy, Bowersville, GA 30516.
