Mr. James Harold Cawthon, age 86, of Lavonia died Monday, February 9, 2015 at National Health Care of Anderson following an extended illness.
Born February 4, 1929, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Manuel Creek Cawthon and Lou Ella (Pruitt) Cawthon. He was a veteran of the US Army. He owned and operated Cawthon Brothers Grocery, C & C Motors and City Auto Supply & Tire Company. He was a member of the Lavonia First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Shelby (Ertzberger) Cawthon of the home; daughter and son-in-law: Pam and Mark Spivey of Lavonia; step-sister: Connie Crowe Reed; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Helen Whiten and Mildred Williams; brothers: M.C. Cawthon, Jr. and Fred Cawthon; and step-sister: Doris Crowe Isbell.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery with Rev. Chris Chitwood officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
