James "Jim" Clyde Harrison Sr., 78, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2011. He resided in Hartwell and was originally from Waycross, Georgia. Jim was preceded in death by his father James Tyler Harrison of McRae and mother, Cora Lee (nee Nail) of Alma GA, his sister Sarah Kirkland and his brother Tommy Woods.

In 1952, Jim joined the United States Army, spending 2 years at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.Following his military service, he attended the University of Georgia and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. When the United States missile tracking program was active on the Island of Grand Turk, Jim worked under contract with Pan American Airways as the assistant to the Air Force base manager (1957-1959).Many technological advances were made for the Air Force and NASA space programs during the active years of the tracking station.In 1959, Jim worked as a claims adjuster for Travelers and Great American Insurance companies until 1972. Jim later attended the John Marshall Law School where he earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence. For over twenty years, Jim served as an administrative law judge for the state of Georgia.He retired in 1995.Jim had a passion for life.He loved people and usually spoke to everyone who crossed his path.His smile was contagious and often transferred to those that he spoke to.He loved to share his funny stories that often ended in an unexpected and unpredictable twist - his listener often drawn to listen further.He loved to laugh and make others laugh – through his joking and harmless pranks.Jim was also a very compassionate and caring person – genuinely concerned about the comfort of others and always lending a hand when the opportunity arose.He had a love of music and would often sing and dance to the songs he grew up with – Jim was all about having fun.Jim was a people person and will be missed by his family, friends, and others that had the opportunity to meet him

Jim lives on in the hearts of his cherished wife of 53 years, Clara Kathryn Harrison (nee McRae), sons James Clyde (Lisa) Harrison Jr. of Jefferson, GA, and John Glen (Monique) Harrison of Oklahoma City, OK, his brother-in-law James Daniel McRae of Montgomery, AL numerous nieces, nephews, friends and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held of Tuesday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.The family is at the home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd, Suite 10, Atlanta GA 30345
