Mr. James Howerton Hembree, 91, of 308 Ridge Road, Hartwell, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC.

Born on November 15, 1920 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Columbus C. Hembree and Nettie Parker Hembree.He was formerly employed with Singer Manufacturing in Anderson SC and thoroughly enjoyed farming part-time. He was a member of Reed Creek Baptist Church, having served as a deacon as well as in other church capacities as long as his health permitted and was a World War II US Army Air Corps veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Cole Hembree of the home; three daughters: Leotis Eddy of Hartwell, Barbara Bridges and her husband Jessie of Murrayville, GA and Sherrie Rowland and her husband Dean of Gray, GA; one sister, LaDon Hix of Hartwell; three grandchildren: Ryan Eddy and his wife Brittney, Matthew Bridges and his wife Julia, and Reagan Rowland; and two great-grandchildren, Landree Eddy and Cheyenne Bridges also survive.Mr. Hembree was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Carey Hembree, Ray Hembree and Talmadge Hembree; two sisters: Lenora Macijewski and Lois Boggs and a son-in-law, Paul Eddy.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Carter Tucker and Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Friday.The family is at the home.
