Mr. James Perry Kay, Sr., age 88, of Lavonia, husband of Vera Pitts Kay, died Friday, June 15, 2007 at Lake Pointe Assisted Living Center in Hartwell.
Born December 20, 1918 in Hart County, he was a son of the late Sam Perry and Nettie Lee Kay. He was a refractory brick mason and a member of the Brick Layers Union. Mr. Kay loved and enjoyed his church, Lavonia First Baptist, and the Zack Daniel Sunday School Class.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Bernice Kay, Tommy Kay, Dupree Kay, and Charlie Kay; and a sister: Louise Carroll.
Survivors include his wife: Vera Pitts Kay; son and daughter-in-law: Dr. James Perry Kay, Jr. and Aneah A. Kay of Hartwell; granddaughters: Whitney Leigh Kay and Lauren Marisa Kay; sisters: Ruth Minor of Lavonia and Mary Wells of Anderson, SC; brother: Hoyt Kay of Lavonia.
The family will be at the home of Dr. James Perry Kay, Jr. and will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Lake Pointe Assisted Living Center Piano Fund, 45 Walnut Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2007 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Chris Chitwood, Richard Bielski, and Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery.
