Mr. James Harold Spears, 78, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born January 2, 1935, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late James Horace Spears and Annie Mae (Starr) Spears. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as a maintenance foreman. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Mr. Spears was a veteran of the US Army, where he served as a military policeman in Korea.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Mattie (Leopard) Spears; daughters and sons-in-law: LaTerries "Lou" & Jim Bellamy and Michelle & Randall Brown; grandchildren: Ethan Brown, Erin Brown, Broughton Bellamy, and Paul Bellamy; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Dennis & Suzanne Spears and Truett & Gwen Spears.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Corey Pulliam officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Toccoa Dialysis Center Benevolence Fund, c/o Deb Roper, 929 Falls Road, Toccoa, GA 30577.
