Mrs. Jan Shirley Sanders, 81, of Whispering Pines Road, Canon, passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens with her family by her side.

Born on June 18, 1937 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late Blanton P. Shirley and Margaret Clark Shirley.Mrs. Sanders provided child care in her home for numerous children throughout the years and was known to all the kids as "Mama Jan".She was a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church, Ladies SS Class, WMU and a former nursery worker.

Survivors include two sons: Kenneth Sanders (Lynn) and Richard Sanders all of Canon; three sisters: Carolyn Austin (Bill) of Anderson SC, Barbara Crittenden (Bruce) and Lynda Mize (Jerry) all of Hartwell; two granddaughters: Haleigh and Brooke Sanders of Hartwell. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Albert Broughton Sanders.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Flat Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Cory Pulliam and Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at the home, 219 Whispering Pines Road, Canon.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Flat Shoals Baptist Church, 2999 Bowersville Hwy, Bowersville GA 30516.

The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
