Obituary

Mr. Douglas Jerrold Brown, age 81, passed away August 30, 2019.

He was born on March 24, 1938 in Hart County, Georgia to the late Clay L. Brown and Azalee B. Brown.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister LaRose Brown Medlin, brothers C.L. Brown, Jr., Herman Brown, Kendall Brown, Bonner Brown, and Berry Joe Brown.

Doug graduated from Hart County High School and North Georgia College. Upon graduation from North Georgia College, he was commissioned as 2nd lieutenant in the US Army. He served two years on active duty and five years in the US Army Reserves where he rose to rank of Captain. He worked for Dundee Mills for 33 years and retired as plant manager of Rushton Mills.

Doug and his wife moved to Griffin, Georgia in 1967 and immediately became active in the community. He was a member and former president of Griffin Jaycees and was a charter member and former president of the Kiwanis Club of Spalding County. He was an active member of Griffin First Presbyterian Church where he had served in many roles including deacon. Doug always enjoyed working on computer, football games, and playing cards. He loved his family, church, and golf.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Patsy Haynie Brown; daughters Allison Mann and her husband Art of Cartersville and Amy Gaston and her husband Jeff of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren, Chandler Mann, Anslie Mann, Anna Caroline Mann, Ashlyn Gaston, and Morgan Gaston; great-grand daughter Addison Oswalt; sister Mary Elizabeth Poole of Hartwell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tony and Brenda Haynie of Hartwell. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 1349 Macon Rd., Griffin, GA. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park, 1171 Royston Hwy, Hartwell GA

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Griffin Memorial Fund or to the charity of their choice.
