Mr. Jerry Thomas Jordan, 75, of Lavonia, formerly of Bowman, finished his course in faith on Monday, August 14, 2017, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC following a sudden illness.
Mr. Jordan was born in Elbert County on September 27, 1941, the only child of the late Thomas Franklin Jordan and Willie Ruth Booth Jordan. He was retired from Johnson & Johnson in Royston and attended Lavonia First Baptist Church. "Papa Jerry", as he was known to his family, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an accomplished pianist and an avid traveler. He was a founding member of the Songsters Quartet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Annette Skelton Jordan.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Vivian Downs Cobb; children and their spouses: Leslie and Dennis Jones of Elberton, Dana and Clay Rice of Elberton, Julie and Scott Franklin of Bowman, Kevin and Beth Jordan of Bowman, and Bryan and Shawn Cobb of Fayetteville; grandchildren and their spouses: Leighann Jones, Cory and Melissa Rice, Jake Franklin, Callen and Justin Dowell, Josh Franklin, Ali Jordan, Austin Cobb, and Brittany Cobb; great-grandsons: Banks and Kenson Rice; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jerry is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia where the family will receive friends on Friday evening between the hours of 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lavonia First Baptist Church, Youth Hangar 40 Building, P. O. Box 47, Lavonia, GA 30553.
Funeral services celebrating Jerry's life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11 o'clock at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger officiating. A private burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston. Grandsons and a nephew will serve as pallbearers. The Elberton Fire Department will serve as honorary escort.
