Mr. Spurgeon Jessie Cobb, 65, of 2593 Sanders Road, Elberton, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born on May 20, 1945 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Spurgeon Cobb, Sr. and Drucie Holmes Cobb. He retired from the Elbert County Road Department where he worked in road maintenance and he also attended the Price Chapel Church of God.
He is survived by his wife: Sara Davis Cobb of Elberton; one son: David Cobb of Elberton; three step-sons: Ricky Vickery of Hartwell, David Vickery of Royston, and Chris Vickery of Elberton; two daughters: Pam Nix of Hartwell, and Tracy Shumake of Hartwell; five step-daughters: Jeannie Little of Elberton, Wanda Aderhold of Canon, Cindy Turpin of Carnesville, Tina Couey of Elberton, and Kimberly Campbell of Elberton; two brothers: Howard Cobb of Hartwell, and Wayne Cobb of Hartwell; two sisters: Janet Eaves of Hartwell, and Sylvia Dyer of Hartwell; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Larry Cobb and James Cobb; one sister: Linda Cobb; and one grandson: Joseph Shumake.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Starrett, Rev. David Vickery, and Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. Burial will be in the Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday night.The family is at the home of Jason and Kim Campbell.
