Mrs. Jessie Ruth Segars Roper, 84, of Lavonia Hwy., Hartwell, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Hart Care Center.
Born on July 14, 1934 in Lavonia, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arzo A. Segars and Mabelle Hamby Segars.Mrs. Roper was a retired lunchroom worker for the Hart County High School and was a member of Fair Play Church of God. Mrs. Roper was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, a former volunteer for LWWB, and a loving grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters: Sheila D. Roper of Hartwell, Pam Roper of Hartwell; one niece raised in the home: Donna Swan; five grandchildren: Melissa Freeman, Tony Poelman, Angel Montez, Shawn White, Jessica Poelman; and three great-grandchildren: A.J. Montez, Jackson Freeman, and Joey Greenway. Mrs. Roper is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Rev. Joe H. Roper; her son: Tony Roper; two grandsons: Chris Allen and Joe Allen; and one great-grandchild: Erica Greenway.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Jerry Chitwood and Rev. Mac Gilliam officiating.Entombment will be in Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Rev. Donald Lee officiating.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.The family will be at the home of Melissa and Earl Freeman, 788 Fairview Avenue.
