Mrs. Jessie Vearl (Tinker) Stanley, age 92, of Lavonia, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospice House.
Born June 21, 1916, in Sevierville, TN, she was the daughter of the late William Rodeman Tinker and Mattie Milanda (Allen) Tinker. She was a retired textile worker and the oldest member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she was affectionately known as "Miss New York".
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband: Cecil G. Stanley; daughters: Betty Hutchins and Carolyn Suggs; and brothers and sisters: Omalee Baumgartner, Roy Tinker, Juanita Chappell, and Grady Tinker.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Gerald & Sue Stanley of Bowman; daughter: Donna Herring of Martin; brothers and sisters: Polly Jack of Chester, SC, George Tinker of Chester, SC, Carl & Chris Tinker of Covington, Bob & Mearl Tinker of Rialto, CA, Shirley Schumacher of Rialto, CA, and Mary & Bob Moen of St. Paul, MN; Twelve Grandchildren; and Nineteen Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Fairview Baptist Church, Highway 59, Lavonia, with the Revs. Tim Bennett, Paul Jameson, and Bruce Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
