In the morning hours of October 10, 2012, 91-year old Jim Phillips of Lavonia, GA was called home to meet his Lord and Savior face to face.
Jim was a son of the late Columbus S. Phillips and Mollie Alexander Phillips.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Price Phillips, after 71 years of marriage.Jim is survived by his son, Tony Phillips and his wife, Dianne, who was like a daughter to him. Jim is also survived by grandchildren and their spouses whom he loved dearly.His granddaughter Kelly P. Akin and husband James of Carnesville and grandson Korey Phillips and wife Leda currently residing in Germany.Jim also has 5 great grandchildren, Ansley Akin, Drew Akin, Franklin Phillips, Oliver Phillips and Quinn Phillips. He leaves behind a sister, Mary P. Whitworth of Indianapolis, IN.
Jim was a graduate from Stephens County High School and a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
Jim graduated from DeVry Institute with an electronics degree and was owner and operator of Phillips TV & Appliance in Lavonia for over 35 years.
He was always an avid reader since learning to read at age 5 and was used to reading three newspapers a day.
He was a faithful member of Lavonia First Baptist Church, having been a deacon and Sunday school teacher for over 40 years.
In celebration of Jim's life, visitation will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Lavonia with the funeral service following at 12:00 p.m.The Dr. Larry Finger will be officiating. There will be no graveside service for interment at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
