Mr. James "Jim" Robert Wright, age 70, of Lavonia, died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at his home.
Born October 14, 1943 in Martinsville, VA, he was the son of Willie E. and Mary "Mallie" Wright. He graduated from Martinsville High School and was a self-employed electrical contractor/builder, Real Estate Broker and auctioneer. He joined the US Navy in 1963, served on the USS Forrestal and was an electrician working in Aviation and Ordinance Electrical Power, rank 2nd Class Petty Officer. Mr. Wright was an avid fisherman, loved to help others whenever needed, loved to tell stories to anyone who had time to listen, wrote poetry and stories about real life, loved the outdoors and he loved his family. He was a member of Gideon's International and was a member of Peniel PH Church in Sandy Cross where he taught Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Judy (Setliff) Wright of the home; children: Pam Wright of Chesterfield, VA, Cyndi Wright of Milledgeville, GA and James R.Wright, Jr. & wife Jennifer of Hart County; grandchildren: Caleb Wright, Presley Wright, Savannah Wright, Samuel Wright and Abigail Wright; siblings: Betty W. Cardwell & Gene of Martinsville, VA, Willie E. Wright, Jr. & Jean of Bassett, VA and David L. Wright of Titusville, FL; and brother-in-law: Ralph Hunt. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters and a brother-in-law: Patricia Hunt and Judy & Kenny Nelson.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Peniel PH Church with Rev. Bert Synan officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. At other hours the family will be at the home.
