Mr. Jimmy Alston Carter, 77, of 186 Race Street, Hartwell, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospice House.

Born on September 26, 1934 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Mack A. Carter and Minnie Shiflet Carter.He was retired from Monroe Automotive Equipment Co. and was a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church.Mr. Carter was a US Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Lankford Carter of the home; one daughter, Claire Phillips and her husband Rick of Bishop, GA; one grandchild, Griffin Phillips; one brother, Cade Carter of Baton Rouge, LA; and one sister, Ellen Mewborn of Hartwell.Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Mack Alfred Carter and Robbie Hugh Carter.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Hartwell First United Methodist Church with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.The body will be placed in the church at 1:30pm.
