Joann Swetmon

Mrs. Joann Young Swetmon, age 87, of Bowersville, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at her home.

Born on January 24, 1939, in the Birmingham Community of Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Emma Wilkins Young. She was a homemaker and was a member of Bowersville Baptist Church. Joann loved shopping and beach vacations.

She is survived by children: Tina Sosebee (Avery), Linda Hicks, and Michael Rumsey (Joyce); grandchildren: Mitchell Rumsey (Hailie), Crystal Weaver, Jennifer Adams, Michael Gray, Brittany Wilson, Billy Wilson and Dalton Rumsey; several great grandchildren also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Larry Rumsey; and sons: Steve Swetmon and Dwight Swetmon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and then on Monday for one hour prior to the service.
