Mr. Joe Fred Chapman, 90, of 1894 Lightwood Road, Hartwell, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center.
Born on May 18, 1924 in Hart County Georgia, he was the youngest son of the late John Walton ("Walker") Chapman and Mamie McCurley Chapman.He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta and worked for the Federal Government, first at Farmers Home Administration, then at the Internal Revenue Service.He was the retired owner of Hartwell Music Center and Radio Shack in Hartwell.He was a member of Hartwell First United Methodist Church.
He leaves two daughters to cherish his memory, Claire Chapman and Tina Howard & her husband Bo, all of Hartwell; and three grandchildren, Losha, Sasha and Toma Howard all of Hartwell.Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his wife, Petty Young Chapman, his parents, two brothers, Ed and Harold Chapman, and two sisters, Martha Maret and Edweena Bailey.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with burial in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hartwell First UMC, 200 E. Howell Street, Hartwell, GA30643 or to the organization of one's choice.
