Mr. Joe Douglas Chitwood, 76, of Fred King Road, Hartwell, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Born on September 11, 1946 in Dalton GA, he was the son of the late Hoyt L. Chitwood and Eloise Duck Chitwood. Mr. Chitwood was retired from BASF in the maintenance department and a member of the Carnesville Church of God. He was a US Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife: Peggy Richardson Chitwood; three daughters: Lori Ledford (Gary) of Carnesville, April Kloes of Elberton, Kristi Cook (Jeff) of Hartwell; one brother: Thomas Chitwood (Brenda) of Hartwell; two sisters: Winona Evans of Winterville, Polly Cordell (Tom) of Hartwell; eight grandchildren: Kaci Ivester (Coty), Mathew Ledford, Scott Johnson, Austin Kloes, Heather Toney (Brian), Kaitlyn Cook, Sam Cook, Eli Cook and nine great grandchildren. Also his Yorkie Baby Ginger. Mr. Chitwood was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ronnie Chitwood, Echota Chitwood and one sister: Peggy Skelton.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at the home.
Funeral services for Mr. Joe Chitwood will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Ledford officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Carnesville Church of God Building Fund, 10094 Lavonia Road, Carnesville, GA 30521.
