Mr. Jose Fernandez "Joe" Montez, 77, of Cromer Road, Elberton, died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born on November 14, 1936 in Fredericksburg TX, on a ranch in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas between Llano and Gillespie County, he was the son of the late Jacinto Montez and Candida Fernandez Montez.Mr. Montez was a retired quarry worker in the Elberton Granite industry.

Survivors include four sons: Joe Montez Jr.& Hope, Robert Montez & Grace all of Llano TX, Christopher Montez of St. Petersburg FL & Jason Montez & Angel of Hartwell GA; two daughters: Lisa Otto & Larry and Lana Moseley & Colin all of Llano TX; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, two great-grandchild and three step-great grandchildren and two sisters, Victoria Mesa & Amelia Reyna.He is predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Graveside service will be Sunday, August 3 at 3:00 p.m. at the Memorial Garden of Prayer with Rev. Mac Gilliam officiating.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
