Mr. Joe Wilbur Thompson, age 74, of 3374 Liberty Hill Road – Hartwell, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born October 6, 1932, in Elbert County, he was the son of the late Lonnie and Maggie (Adams) Thompson. He was a veteran of the US Army, where he served during the Korean War. He retired from Bellcraft Mfg. and was a former member of "Swingin Harts" Square Dancers. Mr. Thompson was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife: Juanita (Kennedy) Thompson; sons: Mike Thompson & wife: Ann of Canon, Wayne Thompson of Ila, David Thompson & wife:Sandra of Hartwell, and Chris Thompson & wife: Crystal of Canon; daughter: Cindy Jones and husband: Todd of Hartwell; two sisters: Reba Thompson and Brenda Thompson of Dewy Rose; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; a son: Tim Thompson; and a sister: Francis Gambrell.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Hartwell Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Gerald Beaty, Tommy Kennedy, and Russ Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday night.The family is at the home. Flowers are optional.
