Mr. Joe F. Vaughn, age 87, of Lavonia, widower of Josephine H. Vaughn, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Lake Point Assisted Living of Hartwell.
Born March 3, 1927, in Lavonia, where he lived all his life, he was the son of the late Jack & Bertha (Bratcher) Vaughn. He was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church having served on numerous committees of the church and formerly served as deacon.
He was a former plant manager of Lavonia Manufacturing Company with 43 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion, the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce and a lifetime member of the Lavonia Post 5897 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also served on the Lavonia City Council. He served as Scout Master and was very active in the organization of the Lavonia – Carnesville Little League.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Josephine (Harris) Vaughn; sisters: Helen V. Wright, Jelane V. Davis, Louise V. Smith, Doris V. Dodson and Sue V. Blackwell; and brother: Jack Vaughn, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter: Joyce V. Roberts; grandsons: Joey Roberts and Allen Roberts; granddaughters: Leanne Roberts and Stacy Roberts; great grandchildren: Taylor, Macy, Riley Alex and Claire Roberts; and great-great-granddaughter: Olivia Cleveland
The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger, Rev. Richard Bielski and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Lavonia First Baptist Church or to The American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.
