Rev. John Henry Ashworth, age 76, of Anderson, formerly of Hartwell, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Rainey Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born August 10, 1941, in Canon, he was the son of the late Patrick Henry Ashworth and Ila Peeples Ashworth Bennett. He was a self-employed welder and was a preacher of the gospel. Mr. Ashworth was a member of Flat Shoals Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Brenda Joyce (Haley) Ashworth; and sister: Ida Sue Bellande.
He is survived by sons: Pat Ashworth of West Union, SC, Tim Ashworth of Carnesville, and Kelly Ashworth of Canon; daughter: Mitzi Hawkins of Anderson, SC; grandchildren: Lori Malpass, Chad Popham, Brennan Ashworth, Briana Ashworth, Grace Ashworth, Noel Ashworth, Mercy Ashworth, Caleb Ashworth, Chase Hawkins and Alex Hawkins; siblings: Carrie Skelton, Priscilla Brewer and Vickie Bailey; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Ashworth, Rev. Stanley Cole and Rev. Marion Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Pat Ashworth, Tim Ashworth, Kelly Ashworth, Brennan Ashworth, Eddie Hawkins and Alex Hawkins; honorary pallbearers: Mike LaZear and Dr. Edward Wysong.
