Mr. John William Blakely, age 70, of Martin, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Halcyon Hospice House in Atlanta.
Born May 21, 1943, in Hart County, he was the son of late James Louis Blakely and Ella Elizabeth (Brown) Blakely. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of the Lavonia VFW and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his son: Brian Blakely; sister: Ruth Harvey; brother: Owen Blakely; grandson: Hunter Blakely; step granddaughter: Madison Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Deborugh (Kenny) Blakely; and brother: Harold Blakely.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Gettis Allen officiating. Mr. Blakely was cremated in accordance with his wishes.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family for the establishment of a college fund for Hunter Blakely.
