Mr. John F. Cleveland, 91, of Lavonia Highway, Bowersville, GA died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Gentiva Inpatient Unit, Athens, GA.
Born on March 14, 1924 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Seab Henry Cleveland and Eula Mae Payne Cleveland. Mr. Cleveland was a retired mechanic for Hartwell Garment Company and a volunteer fireman for the City of Hartwell for 30 years.Mr. Cleveland was a WW II, U. S. Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater.
Survivors include three sons: Johnny Cleveland & Jean of Hartwell, Ronald Cleveland & Brenda of Bowersville, and Len Cleveland & Andria of Bowersville; two daughters: Ann Cartee of Hartwell, and Linda McCall & Bobby of Hartwell; three brothers: Charles Cleveland of Danielsville, Wendall Cleveland of Bowersville, and Junior Cleveland of Bowersville; 2 sisters: Loretta Brautigam of Bowersville and Lola White of Bowersville; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Mr. Cleveland was preceded in death by his wife: Ruth Irene Chatham Cleveland; three brothers: Carey Cleveland, Willie Cleveland, and Alton Cleveland; and one sister: Louise Cleveland.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Mike Fugate and Rev. Tommy Cleveland officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with military honors.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening. The family is at the home. Flowers optional, memorials made be made to Gentiva Hospice, 855 Gaines School Road, Suite G, Athens GA 30606.
