Mr. John Arthur Feltman, 88, of Benson Street, Hartwell, Georgia died Saturday, June 5, 2011 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the late Sara Walters Feltman.
Born on January 18, 1923 in Hart County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Lawson J. Feltman and Mary Roukoski Feltman. He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Company after 25 years of service as Superintendant of Warehousing and Distribution.After retirement he worked as a Real Estate agent for 15 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post 400.He had served on the Hart County Board of Tax Equalization and was a member of the Hartwell Planning and Zoning Board. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hartwell, where he served as an Elder and was the oldest living member of his church at the time of his death. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Army Chemical Warfare Service. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater operations and was part of the Invasion of Saipan.
Surviving are son: John D. Feltman of Atlanta, GA; daughter: Gay Copeland and her husband, David, of Anderson, SC; grandsons: Nathan Copeland and his wife, Brittany, of Knoxville, TN, Adam Copeland of Elizabethton, TN, and Lawson Feltman of Atlanta, GA.He is preceded in death by a brother: Loyd Feltman and sisters: Sara Bowers and Guynelle and Elizabeth Feltman of Hartwell, GA.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Hartwell First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stephen Nelms officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hartwell First Presbyterian Church, 41 S. Carter Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.
