Mr. John Coy Lawrence, 72, of 3688 Transco Rd., Comer, GA, formerly of Hartwell, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at his residence.

Born on October 25, 1937 in Hart Co. GA, he was the son of the late Albert Watson Lawrence and Rosa Lee Segars Lawrence.He was retired; formerly working as an inspector for Monroe and as a commercial painter. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife, Dorothy Outz Floyd of the home; three sons, Wayne Lawrence of Abbeville, SC, David Lawrence and his wife Laura of Abbeville, SC, and Shane Lawrence of Walterboro, SC; stepson, Charlie Floyd and his wife Sherri of Dewy Rose; step daughter Diane Massey and her husband Ed of Bowman; three brothers, Charles A. Lawrence and George "Bob" Lawrence both of Hartwell and Eugene Lawrence of Lavonia; five sisters, Inez Holland, Betty Carruth both of Hartwell and Evelyn Gaines, Annie Ruth Burrell, and Faye Turner all of Elberton; three grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, June Adelia Lawrence; brothers, Billy and Jimmy Lawrence and sisters, Viola Clark and Kathleen Cantrell.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 25 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Mr. Fred Greenway officiating.Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home ~ Hartwell Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Rd, Athens, GA30605-3007.
