Mr. John Doughty (Jack) Matlack, 81, of Harbor Point, Hartwell, departed for glory Friday, June 25, 2021 at his home.Jack treasured the opportunities to serve his Lord Jesus Christ and contributed his time and skills as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher over the years.He cherished his family and friends, and took every opportunity to spend time with them and support their activities.
Born on September 17, 1939, in Parksbury, PA, he was the son of the late Joaquim Bishop Matlack and Eleanor Victoria Fellenbaum Matlack.Mr. Matlack was in the 1963 class of the University of Delaware and received a Bachelors degree in Chemistry.He focused his career as a chemist in polymer plastics and authored multiple patents in the field before retiring from Silgan Plastics.He and his surviving wife, Mary Susanne Mahla Matlack, retired to Hartwell in 2004 and have been blessed by the ministry of their Joyful Holland Sunday School Class at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church.
He is also survived by his daughter, Camille of Hartwell, and his two sons John Matlack Jr. (Renee) of Monroe, Georgia and Dan Matlack of Tennessee; his three brothers Wilson Matlack, Douglas Matlack (AeJa) and Paul Matlack (Heidi), all of Sacramento, CA; five grandsons – Johnathon, Joshua, Jordan, Chase and Tyler Matlack; and many beloved nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother Joaquim Matlack.
Mr. Matlack wished to be cremated and a memorial celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
