Mr. John T. "J.T." McDowell, Jr., 64, of Liberty Hill Road, Hartwell, died Wednesday, September 4 at AnMed Health Medical Center, Anderson.

Born on March 12, 1949 in Anderson SC, he was the son of the late John T. McDowell Sr and Ina Mae Temples McDowell. He was a former self-employed Painter.Mr. McDowell was an ordained minister, where did a jail ministry in the local jails and volunteered at Roger C. Peace for a number of years.He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his daughter: Kristi Cook & her husband Jeff of Hartwell; three brothers: Bob McDowell, Alex McDowell and Shem McDowell all of Hartwell; three sisters: Sue Ellis of Statesville NC, Belle Richardson of Easley SC and Ruby Moss of Hartwell; four grandchildren: Heather Toney & Brian, Kaitlyn Cook, Sam Cook and Eli Cook; three great-grandchildren: Hayden Bryan, Braden Toney & Carter Toney also survive.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. John Silver and Mr. Jim Hoobler officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday night.The family is at the home of his daughter, Kristi & Jeff Cook, 586 Cedar Pond Road, Hartwell.
