Mr. John G. Schleier, Jr. 83, of Kesler Road, Canon, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA.

Born on October 2, 1931 in Omaha NE, he was the son of the late John Gerald Schleier Sr. and Frances Downey Schleier.Mr. Schleier was retired from IBM, where he was a director of Information Systems, former member of the Business School faculty at the University of Georgia and former President of Computer Power Inc.Mr. Schleier was an author of several books and an accomplished violinist.He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a U S Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife: Maribeth Edmondson Schleier of the home; three sons: Dr. John G. Schleier III and his wife Kathy of Dalton GA, Christopher J. Schleier and his wife Joanne of Kennesaw GA and Mark S. Schleier of Canon; three daughters: Anne C. Tkacs and her husband Thomas of Roswell GA, Marilyn M. Ramsey and her husband Clay of Powder Springs GA and Amy S. Phillips and her husband Franklin of Buford GA; two brothers: Gerald H. Schleier and his wife Diane of Keokuk IA and Richard Schleier and his wife Jan of Phoenix AZ; one sister: Rosemary Stuchel and her husband Hank of Winterset IA; twenty grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.Mr. Schleier was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Nancy J. Schleier and a sister: Carol S. Nichols.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 28 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1009 Benson Street, Hartwell GA 30643.
