John William "Bill" Williams, age 85, of Toccoa, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at his home.
John was born in Hancock, Maryland. His higher education was received at Piedmont University, Emmanuel College and the University of Georgia. While earning his B.F.A. degree in English/Drama, he divided his talent between the drama club, society and school paper.
John grew up in the Blue Ridge Country of Virginia. During his childhood he lived with his grandparents.
John has been published in a number of small press and Literary Journals.
He had three poetry books, and two children's books published, which are in the local libraries.
In 1994 John was presented an award for recognition of outstanding service and dedication as an educator.
John taught in the Banks County School System for 25 years and retired in 1994.
Preceding him in death were parents: Ruby Higgs Williams Snead and Mack Williams of North Carolina; sisters: Barbara Hackworth, Betty Scearce and Patsy Willis.
Survivors: sister and brother-in-law: Judy and Jerry Burke; brothers and sister-in-law: Jimmy and Diann Snead, Donald Snead and Charles Farr; special niece: Melanie Willis and other nieces and nephews; and long-time friend and caregiver: Paul H. Cheek.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. A private burial will be at Franklin Springs Cemetery.
