Mr. John Henry "Johnny" Hill, age 83, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the home of his daughter.
Born December 30, 1928, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Wiley Dalton Hill and Etta Sheriff Hill. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Hill's Scrap Metal. He was a Korean War veteran of the US Army. Mr. Hill was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Christine Harris Hill; daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Tim Elrod; granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Amy and Brandon Crunkleton; great-grandchildren: Gracie Rae Crunkleton and Caraline Crunkleton; brother and sister-in-law: Owen T. "Shorty" and Helen Hill; aunt: Ozelle Cawthon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Crunkleton and Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home of Kathy and Tim Elrod.
