Mr. Johnny William Owens, age 82, of Lavonia, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospice House.
Born August 6, 1928 in Hart County, he was the son of the late Elmer Thomas Owens and Letha Mauldin Owens Hudson. He was a retired house painter, was a member of the Decatur Masonic Lodge 571 F. & A.M. Mr. Owens was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother: Ernest G. Owens; and sisters: Mary Nell Owens Woods and Elmer Sue Owens Lowrimore.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Cheek Owens of the home; step-son: Michael Cheek Borum and wife Cynthia of Lavonia; sister: Mattie Lee Owens Pearson; step-grandchildren: Angela & Curtis Jarrett and William & Lacey Borum; and step-great grandchildren: Kristen & Stephen Jarrett, Connor Borum.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
