Mrs. Josephine Sarah (Cid) Cherry, age 88, of Canon, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at her home.
Born March 5, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Sarah (Nieves) Cid. She was a resident of Lake Wells, FL from 1943 to 1965, where she was an active member in the Lake Wells First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from Bell Shoals Baptist Church, where she served as pre-school director and teacher for thirty years.Mrs. Cherry was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church and former member of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, FL.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Darold P. Cherry; sisters: Marti Elias and Lucy Bruggerman; and brothers: Richard Elias, Hector Elias, Robert Elias, and Ray Elias.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Mary and Tom Fennell of Canon, Darlene and Tommy Byrd of Haines City, FL, Esther and Charlie Moulder of Canon, & Melanie and Kevin Schultz of Suwanee; sisters: Sonia Santiago & Angelo of Sarasota, FL and Laura Vitacco of Sarasota, FL; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members.
A celebration of life service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Finger officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A visitation and graveside service will be held in Brandon, FL at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made in memory of Mrs. Cherry to Lavonia First Baptist Church Building Fund or The Gideon International.
