Ms. Joyce Annette Norton Durham Smith King, age 77, of Lavonia, formerly of Decatur, died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
Born November 27, 1933, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late Harold Henry Norton and Eula Archie Jones. She graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1950 and received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Kennedy Western University in 1989. During the 1970's, she worked for South Dekalb Mental Health.Ms. King retired from Georgia Student Finance Commission, in 1996, where she served as Collections Manager. In retirement she worked with the local AARP as a Tax Aide Volunteer.
She is survived by her children: Daniel Durham; Linda and Richard Petty; Catherine and Jason Bass; brother: Mike Norton; sister: Betty Johnson; and grandchildren: Courtney Petty and Heather & Dylan Bass. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren: James, Robert & John Durham; and brother-in- law: Billy Johnson.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
