Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mrs. Joyce Mathis, whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and cherished moments. Born on December 9, 1938, in Atlanta, Georgia, Joyce's life touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Joyce attended Brown High School in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met and then married the love of her life, Gus Mathis. Their love story was 65 years strong and will continue to leave a lasting legacy. A devoted mother, Joyce passes on her love and strength to her two daughters, Pam (Mark) Estabrooke and Paula (Charles) Landerfelt. Her love extends to her five grandchildren, Maci (Todd) Fahring, Kimberly Landerfelt, Brian (Kelly) Meadow, Emily (Brett) Kelley, Abbi Estabrooke, and her 15 great-grandchildren.

It was the simple pleasures like playing bridge, book club and time with family that brought her joy. She was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful landscapes. Her impact extended beyond family. She retired from Monarch Beverage, was a founding member of Kingswood United Methodist, and faithfully attended Lavonia First United Methodist.

From her friends to her faith, she was an inspiration to so many. Among her greatest joys was hosting family gatherings at their home on Lake Hartwell. This home created a sanctuary of joy and fun, creating lasting memories for all who were able to gather there.

Joyce will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and steadfast faith and will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration will take place on Saturday February 10th at 11:30 a.m. at Lavonia First United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Joyce's legacy and remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Food 4 Kids, c/o Lavonia First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 176, Lavonia, Georgia 30553, in Joyce's honor.

May Joyce's soul rest in eternal peace.
