Obituary

Julius A. Jaeger (90), affectionately known as Juge, died peacefully in his sleep on October 30 at Metropolitan Hospice in Marietta, GA.His wife Lauretta preceded him in death in 1995.His descendents include eleven children (Pat, Gene, Pete, Juanita, Dan, Mary, Frances, Steve, Bridget, Willy, and Matha), seventeen grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren.
Two sons, Pat and Pete, gave their lives as a result of their actions in defense of their country in Vietnam. Pat's valor is recognized by a plaque erected by the Vietnam Veterans Association in front of the Two Live Oaks Building at Lenox Square in Atlanta. Pat and his wife Sandi have four children, Nina, Tricia, Lisa, and Michelle, and nine grandchildren.
Gene and his wife Elaine have three sons and five grandchildren.Pete and his wife Cathy have two children, Tim and Shelly, and two grandchildren.Juanita and her husband John Muehlbauer have three children, Cindi, John, and Lori, and seven grandchildren.Dan and his wife Jane have two children, Natasha and Reagan, and four grandchildren. Mary and her husband Gordon Wysong have two children, Brian and David.Frances and her husband John Jerow have a son John.Steve and his wife Kay have two children, Pat and Carrie.Matha and her husband Peter Klaase have two children, Raymond and Tenneya, and six grandchildren.
Juge was a graduate of Jesuit High School in Detroit and an Aeronautical Engineering alumnus of the University of Michigan.He joined the Lockheed Aircraft Company in Burbank in 1939 where he worked on the development of the P-38, Constellation, XB-49, XP-58, XR-60, PV-2, F-80, T-33, F-94, F-104, and Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose.
He was one of the lead developers of the C-130 aircraft, which in 1955 moved the production line to Marietta, GA.Production of the C-130 continues to this day in Marietta, having built more than 2100 aircraft.He also served as a Chief Engineer for Special Projects and led the development of the JetStar executive aircraft.
Following his retirement in 1982, Juge moved to his lake home in Hartwell, GA.He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He served for over 15 years as a volunteer fireman in California and for over 27 years as a Boy Scout Leader in California and Georgia.
His funeral will be at 11:00 am on November 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hartwell, GA.The family will receive visitors at the Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell from 9:30 am to 10:30 am before the funeral. Interment will be at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park immediately after the funeral Mass.In his memory in lieu of any other action, he requested that you perform three acts of kindness through words or deeds for a member of your family, your neighbors, and/or friends, and a stranger.
