Mrs. Karen Joy Walker Chitwood, age 48, of 345 Clarks Creek Road – Martin, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born May 4, 1958 in Chattanooga TN, she was the daughter of Rev. William "Bill" Walker and Joyce Hejl Walker of Dalton GA.She was retired from 1st Bank and Trust with 18 years of service.She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and served as the current church secretary. She was a former church treasurer, a member of the church choir, WMU and a Bible School and Sunday School Teacher.
She is survived by her parents; husband: Wayne Chitwood; two sons: Brad Chitwood and Kyle Chitwood both of Martin GA; brother: Steve Walker and his wife Donna of Ila GA; sister: Sandra Franklin and her husband Dean of Nashville TN; and grandmother: Annie Hejl of College Station, TX.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2006 at. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Ross Layne and Rev. David Wilson officiating.Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home – Lavonia Chapel, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Lottie Moon Christmas Offering or Church Building Fund, PO Box 393, Lavonia GA30553. The family will be at the home.
