Mr. Kenneth Brown O'Barr, age 88, of Martin, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee.
Born December 26, 1926, in Hart County, he was the son of the late Patrick and Sula (Wilson) O'Barr. He served in the US Army and retired from the US Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. After retirement he worked as a car dealer in Martin. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Hartwell.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Ronald & Kay O'Barr; Larry O'Barr & Tammy Hill; Peggy & Jim Hunt; and Joyce & Bill Marczam; sister: Billie Hoovey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Peggy & Jeff Minchew and Jenny & Bobby Mosley; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives: Peggy (Harris) O'Barr and Lucy (Rowland) O'Barr; a daughter: Susan Gail O'Barr; and two sisters: Patsy Best and Polly Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Hartwell Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Michael O'Barr, Jeffrey O'Barr, Rodney Mitchell, Tim Dodgins, Rodney Marett, and Tommy Ilic. The family will receive friends at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to the National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org).
