Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Lee York, age 87, of Mt. Airy, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at his home.
Born August 29, 1927 in Mt. Airy, GA, he was the son of the late Joseph Daniel York and Lillie (Waldon) York. He retired from Schnadig Corporation after 34 years of service.During his years at Schnadig, he served as UIU Health & Welfare Fund Social Security Steward and President of the Local 188. He was a member of Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Joe York, Jr & James York; and sisters: Minnie Payne, Frances Umbehant, Dorothy Umberhant, and Linda Ledford.
He is survived by his wife: Zadie Ovaline (Loudermilk) York of the home; son & daughter-in-law; Steve & Phyllis York of Mt. Airy; daughter: Sandra Shedd of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law: Teresa and James Merritt of Dacula; brother: Lloyd York of Eastanollee; sisters: Lessie Finigan of Marshall, TX, Margie Rabb of Jefferson, Betty Gulledge of Sautee Nacoochee, & Hilda Mewborne of Mt. Airy; grandchildren: Curtis Shedd of Prescott, AZ, Amanda York Caudell of Mt. Airy, James Merritt, Jr. of Sugar Hill, Jonathan Merritt of Brooklyn, NY, and Joshua Merritt of Dacula; and great-grandchildren: Ashton, Abby, and Ariel Caudell of Mt. Airy and Harper and Presley Merritt of Sugar Hill.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. James Merritt, Rev. Terry Benfield, Rev. Scott Ledbetter, and Bishop Chet Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church Youth Department, 332 Smokerise Drive, Baldwin, GA 30511.
