Mr. Alvin Lee Sumner, 77 of 30 Oak Mountain Lane, Hartwell, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born on January 3, 1933 in Blountstown, FL, he was the son of the late James Ashley Sumner and Mary Ann Yarborough Sumner. He was a retired maintainer at the Continental Can Co. He was a member and Deacon of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where he also served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and member of the Forever Young.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Andrews Sumner; three sons, Chip Sumner of Locus Grove, GA, Robert Sumner of Marietta, GA, and Andy Sumner of Woodstock, GA; two brothers, Clarence Sumner of Newnan, GA, and twin brother, Allen A. Sumner of Ashford, AL; 8 Grandchildren also survive.Mr. Sumner was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Black and Mr. Leslie Boles officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday night.The family is at the home.Flower arrangements are optional.Special Memorials may be made to the .
