Mr. Lenzy Leonard Barnes, age 85, of Union Hill Church Road, Bowersville, crossed over the Jordan River Sunday, July 29, 2018. He was at his home surrounded by his family.
Born September 9, 1932, in Bowersville, he was the son of the late Lindsay Doc Barnes and Ida Estelle (White) Barnes. He retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Company. He was a farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Barnes was a member of Price Chapel Church of God. He was the last surviving charter member of Bowersville Church of God, where he had been a member for 51 years.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family; in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: J. P. Barnes, Rufus Barnes, Raymond Barnes, Bennie Barnes, Sam Barnes, and twin brothers: Aaron and Ephron Barnes; and sisters: Ruth Wallace, Johnnie Mae McKern, Bernice White, Elise Frankum, Lelia Scarborough, Nealie Jordan, Ossie Bell Eavenson, and Sally Herndon.
He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth "Lee" (Carter) Barnes of the home; son and daughter-in-law: David and Sharon Barnes of Bowersville; daughters and sons-in-law: Laverne and Ricky Martin of Lula and Betty and David Smith of Bowersville; grandchildren: Tiffany Vaughn, Janna Vasile, Stephanie Lowery, and Jason Smith; and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Price Chapel Church of God with Rev. Johnny Stowe and Mr. Fred Greenway officiating. Burial will follow in Bowersville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers donations are requested in Mr. Barnes memory to Price Chapel Church of God Children's Ministry, 687 Providence Church Rd, Lavonia, GA 30553.
