Mr. David Leon "Midge" Andrews, age 84, of Lavonia, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice of Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born September 30, 1930, in Hart County, he was the son of the late William Clarence Andrews and Cleo (Mouchet) Andrews. He graduated from Lavonia High School in 1949 and attended Tennessee Tech in Cookville, TN. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, where he worked as a decoder in communications. Mr. Andrews retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He was owner and operator of D. Andrews Auto Sales, Inc. He was a charter member of the Lavonia Jaycees. He was a member of the Lavonia Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Georgia Independent Automobile Dealers Association. Mr. Andrews was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Lavonia, where he was an ordained deacon and Sunday School superintendent and teacher.
He is survived by his wife: LaNora (Crider) Andrews; daughter: LaDonna Andrews; daughter & son-in-law: Lori & Terry Floyd; granddaughters: Lindsey Currens Bruce & Brandon Cothran and Heather Hardin Court & Richard Court; great-grandchildren: Landon, Lexie, and MaKinley Bruce and Colyn Court; sisters: Carolyn Andrews Norris and Jonnye Andrews Mauldin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Charles Andrews and Tyler Andrews; and a sister: Betty Jean Culpepper Harrell.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Lavoniawith Rev. John Forbes, Rev. E. Davis Lacey, Chuck Holland, Braden Andrews Holland, Terry Floyd, and LaDonna Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North with Rev. Courtney Umbehant and Dr. Joe Renfro officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
