Leon Dennis Denman, 89, of Line Community, Lavonia, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday night, February 15, 2017.Born August 14, 1927, in Franklin County, Red Hill Community, he was the son of the late Ralph Deloan Denman and Bessie Mae Segars Denman.In his younger years, he was employed by Coates & Clark and Owens-Corning Fiberglass. He spent most of his life as a self-employed cattle farmer and also weighed cattle at area sale barns.He loved basketball and all sports.He was an avid bird hunter and fisherman.
Leon was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.He loved the Lord and it was reflected in his desire for all people he met to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Price Denman of the home; daughters and their husbands, Judy and Keith Carter, Lavonia, Drs. Jane and Scott Kirkpatrick, Rutherfordton, N.C.; grandchildren Lee Carter and Paige, Ellen Kirkpatrick, and Will Kirkpatrick; two great-granddaughters and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Julian and Evelyn Price Yuille.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Deloan Denman, and sisters, Wylette D. Fulbright and Ella Lou D. McClain.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with pastors Doug Dickson and Billy Owensby officiating.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Visitation will be held prior to the service, at the church, from 1:00-2:45 p.m.At other times, the family will be at the home.
Pallbearers are Charles Chappelear, Wayne Chitwood, Loyd Melton, Chris Moon, Louie Moon, and Joe Dan Turpin. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Carson and Travis Moon.
Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
