Leonard Fredrick "Fred" Brown, age 81, passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at his home. Born on February 12, 1944, in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Conrad Brown, Jr. and Bonnie Asbury Williams.
Fred dedicated many years of his professional life to AT&T before his retirement. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where he was known for his unwavering commitment to the community. Fred's legacy is marked by his infectious sense of humor and the warm smile he shared with everyone he met.
Fred had a profound love for the outdoors, often spending his days hunting and fishing. He also found joy in woodworking, crafting pieces that will be treasured by his family for years to come. Above all, Fred cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. Fred's family and friends hold dear memories of his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
Fred's memory is cherished by his daughters, Tracy (Darrin) McFarlin and Connie Vasser; his grandchildren, Cameron (Madison) Mason, Carliann Peters (Ryan Anthony), Carson (Shane) Gee, Trey (Betts) McFarlin, and Ty McFarlin; and his great-grandchildren, Miller Mason, Silas Peters, and Sadie McFarlin.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Rita Willoughby Brown, his son-in-law, Paul Vasser, and his sisters, Connie Jerrell and Carla Stone.
A funeral service to celebrate Fred's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Bruce McGee officiating. Fred's body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service, allowing friends and family to pay their respects.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the service.
